More than a voice from the wilderness - Northroots is all about northern Manitoba, our people, places and events: our heroes, the villains and the ordinary folk. We also examine the mysteries of our wildlife and ecosystems, from bugs and bears to plants and geology. We look for well-written stories, photos and illustrations and we publish history, biographies, humour, informational, and simply interesting articles. Our region was the original European gateway to central and western Canada in the 17th Century, when bark canoes and York boats ruled. Today the fur trade is a diminished influence, but the region is still teeming with fish and wildlife and is loaded with mineral resources, hydroelectric power and human potential. The population is 65% Aboriginal ancestry, with an emerging sense of empowerment.
Independent and supported 100% by advertising, Northroots Magazine has struck a regional cord, linking communities. Our song is one of celebration and wonder.
